Mahtomedi High School (MHS) students in Carly Lewellen’s AVID class recently had the opportunity to explore the college experience through a visit to the University of Wisconsin River Falls (UWRF).
Throughout the visit, students learned about the programs offered, tuition, opportunities available, and general campus life. They attended small group sessions tailored to their potential future career interests and asked questions to a UWRF student panel. They also got to eat lunch in the dining hall among current students and participate in a campus tour. Click here to see photos from the visit.
AVID is a new elective class offered to MHS students this year. It provides a curriculum that focuses on strong reading and writing skills, organization, study strategies for success, and research on colleges and careers. AVID students also participate in additional activities such as college visits and community service projects.
