This summer, Mahtomedi students in the Class of 2025 attended our College Application Bootcamp class. This two-day session helped students learn about the college application process, including timelines, financial aid, and support resources.
Students heard from college admission reps from the University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, and Century College. Mahtomedi High School counselor Keith Miley led the class, and students also worked with Mahtomedi High School English teachers on writing essays. Students created a personalized list of potential colleges, a college essay draft, and a completed resume to use when requesting recommendation letters and scholarship applications.
Upcoming college-readiness opportunities include Mahtomedi Community Education’s in-person and virtual prep courses for the ACT entrance exam. These courses provide an introduction to the ACT format with strategies for answering questions as well as instruction for the test’s subject areas. Focal points include diagnostic testing, vocabulary development, intensive mathematical review, reading comprehension improvement, science reasoning, concentration improvement, overcoming test anxiety, essay writing, and time management.
